No Rs200 movie tickets on weekends and public holidays in Karnataka

The price cap policy of rs 200 for all the multiplexes announced by CM Siddaramaiah during the annual budget faces some alterations yet again. The Karnataka High court on Thursday said that 200 price cap on cinemas shall not be applicable on Saturday, Sundays and Public holidays throughout Karnataka.

The Interim order was filed by Justice PS Dinesh Kumar on the petition filed by FICCI-Multiplex Association of India, New Delhi and the Director of Inox Leisures Ltd Vadodara, Mr. Deepak Asher.

The petitioner questioned the validity of this price cap by Kannada, Cultural and Information Department. The petitioner’s lawyer also claimed that Karnataka   Cinema (Regulations) Act and Rules has no right to such decisions such as price capping.

However, Additional Advocate General AG Shivanna claimed that the decision was taken with the ‘consent’ of the association and thus hold water.

While petitioner said there were a certain set of conditions on which the association agreed to the rupees 200 price cap in Karnataka.
