Father of Unnao rape case victim dies in jail, Magisterial probe ordered

Lucknow(UP): In a shocking development in the Unnao rape case, the father of the victim has been found dead in the jail. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered for the same. The victim had accused a BJP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The man was arrested on Sunday after the family attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Lucknow residence. The woman and her family alleged that she was raped by the BJP MLA and his accomplices, and the police registered the FIR after a year.

The family also said that the MLA’s brother had thrashed the woman’s father on April 3 for refusing to cancel the FIR but instead of arresting the brother, the police booked the father and lock him for one year.
Officials said that the man’s illness is the cause of death but the family alleged that he was murdered in the jail by Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Talking to media, DIG of Law and Order, Praveen Kumar said, “Judicial Magistrate’s inquiry will be conducted, and whoever is found guilty will not be spared.” The investigation in the rape case is already underway and has been transferred to Lucknow.
