Telangana Bill introduced in Lok Sabha amidst ugly scenes

Date:

Delhi: An MP used pepper spray adding to the chaos. And an ugly physical fight inside Parliament followed. Outside the Parliament House, too, there were clashes between Pro-Telangana and Anti-Telangana mobs, which the police handled adroitly.

In the Lok Sabha, as soon as the Telangana Bill was introduced by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, the two group of MPs rushed to the well. A computer was flung and broken in the clash; a mike was thrown; one lawmaker, L Rajagopal, used pepper spray on others.

There is unprecedented security in Parliament after a suicide threat by an MP. No visitors were allowed and fire extinguishers and blankets are being kept on the ready.

Earlier, Seemandhra MPs with blindfolds protested in Parliament, holding up placards and shouting. Both Houses were then adjourned.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met top ministers before Parliament began as the government anticipated trouble.

At a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister on Wednesday, senior BJP leaders made it clear that the bill to create Telangana “cannot be passed in the din,” without a proper discussion.
