Travel every month to a new destination

Date:

Seeking inspiration for your 2015 holidays? We’ve chosen the perfect destination for each month, so you don’t have to.

Tour the world one place at a time!

January: Thaliand

January is the month of both cold, dark, dreary weather. Where better to cure those post-Christmas blues and ready your mind, body and soul for the next 12 months than a luxury spa in Thailand? Counter the consequences of December’s mulled wine with a detoxifying exfoliation or de-stress during a warm coconut oil massage. The cherry on top is Thailand’s January sunshine, which means quality beach time and a resulting healthy glow.

February: The Caribbean

For the most romantic month of the year, escape to the Caribbean, where secluded beaches, relaxed island life and glorious weather combine to provide the ideal destination for couples seeking alone time. From adults-only resorts to private villas and entire islands, the Caribbean offers a spectrum of styles and exclusivity to cater to any lovebirds’ needs. And let’s face it: a candlelit dinner for two as the sun sets on the Caribbean Sea sure beats film night at home on Valentine’s Day.

March: New Zealand

Food and weather in addition to the year-round views makes New Zealand the perfect spot to travel in March

Although you’ll want to spend time in the forward-thinking Kiwi city of Auckland, this is the perfect month to get out in the country, where adorable lambs are everywhere, magically bounding from one beautiful hillside to another.

It’s still warm enough for a day at the beach yet fall colors are starting to erupt on the South Island.

April: Spain and Portugal

Come for the spring sun and blossoming flora, stay for the food, festivals and friendly people. Both countries on the Iberian Peninsula have rich Catholic heritages put spectacularly on show as Easter approaches.

Meanwhile, the largest Spanish celebrations take place in Andalucía, where authentic tapas are plentiful. Strictly speaking, Semana Santa is a religious festival, but there is plenty of frivolity to go around.

May: England, Scotland & Wales

An escape to the cheerful countryside takes full advantage of the lengthening days and first hints of summer.

Whether your preference is croquet on the lawn of a stately English manor, exploring the lakes of the Lake District or lochs of the Highlands or having a pint on a terrace in the Cotswolds, quintessential British activities are the call of the month. Hail Britannia, indeed.

June: Namibia

The desert air cools over Namibia in June, meaning pleasant daytime temperatures and crisp, clear nights. The latter makes for spellbinding stargazing, with an unimpeded view of the heavens showing just why the Milky Way got its name.

The cooler climate also makes June one of the few months when hikers can take on the world’s second largest canyon: Fish River. The 85km multi-day trail along the floor of this yawning 550m-deep, 27km-wide rift in the earth’s surface is one of Africa’s best. Climbing up the crests of the parabolic dunes at Sossusvlei – among the worlds tallest – is also much more enjoyable in moderate temperatures.

July: Sri Lanka

Religious harmony seems to be in short supply in the world today, so it’s refreshing to find somewhere like Kataragama, sacred to Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims alike. Founded in the 2nd century BC, this holy city snoozes quietly for much of the year, but it explodes into life for the two-week Kataragama Esala festival in July.

In the run-up to the festival, tens of thousands of pilgrims complete an epic trek across Sri Lanka, following in the footsteps of Murugan, the Hindu god of war and victory. Lasting up to two months, the Pada Yatra trek winds from Jaffna, through Trincomalee and Batticaloa to Okanda, and on through Yala National Park to Kataragama, where the real test of devotion begins.

August: Indonesia

With the year more than half gone, make your way to Indonesia to recoup amidst its breathtaking beauty. The islands of Bali and Lombok are long-standing tourist destinations for a reason, and visitors have an equal selection of stylish resorts near buzzing beaches and secluded private villas surrounded by nature.

Discover elegant temples, explore lush rice paddy fields, sample traditional cuisine and treat yourself to a Balinese massage; there’s plenty to choose from in the way of peaceful relaxation here.

September: Greece

Summer may be coming to a close in September, but you can extend your sunshine for a bit on the Greek Islands.

Lounge on the beach, wander through picture-perfect whitewashed villages and indulge in all the gorgeous Greek food you can handle — olives, figs, feta cheese, spit-roasted lamb, fresh-caught seafood, baklava dripping with honey.  Cap off perfect Greek days with panoramic sunset views over the Aegean Sea.

October: France

Come October the countryside and urban parks in France erupt in gorgeous shows of gold, copper, and fiery scarlet.

October is also the peak of the grape harvest in France, so make the most of it by jetting off to a fairytale château, graceful manoir or wine domaine. Swill the very best of French wine and take part in the traditional celebrations held all over the country.

November:  Nepal

With the end of the monsoon, clear skies return to the Himalaya, creating prime conditions for trekking in the world’s highest mountains. As an added bonus, this is also the season for Mani Rimdu, the biggest Sherpa festival in Nepal.

The monastery of Tengboche comes alive with masked dances, fire ceremonies, sand mandalas and the popping of ceremonial ‘pills’. Sherpas gather from across Solukhumbu to pay their respects to the resident monks and line up for sacred pills, believed to guarantee long life and Buddhist merit.

December: South Korea

Koreans love their outdoor sports, and December is the perfect time for snow fanatics to hit the slopes here. Gangwon-do, Korea’s most northeasterly province is home to numerous winter sport resorts, including Pyeongchang County, which will host the Winter Olympics in 2018.

Among the top resorts, Yongpyong and Alpensia are the largest and facilities here are extremely modern, with lifts and gondolas whisking skiers and boarders up the 30-odd pistes.

The season generally starts in early December and this is a good month to come, as it is quieter than in the New Year.
