Eve teasing forces 100 girls to quit school

Date:

In a country where Narendra Modi is seeking every possible way for promoting ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ campaign, it seems it is yet to reach every corner of the nation.

In a recent incident, regular harassment by a group of youths has made nearly 100 girls from six villages in Bareilly refuse to attend the school.

Following the complaint and FIR by the parents of five girls, police have booked five persons on Wednesday. These youths were passing lewd remarks and were charged for obscene acts, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.

However, no arrest has been made in the case that has been registered at Shergarh police station.

Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, Bareilly Additional SP (rural) has denied the accusation by the girls and their parents. He claimed only a few girls from three villages take a boat to cross a river on their way to school and the accused, who belongs to Tanda village, usually take a bath in the river and harass the girls.

Local village pradhan Tej Pal Singh Gangwar claimed that two days ago the parents of some of the girls informed the local police station but no action was taken and thus he had to hand over the complaint to the office staff of Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar in Bareilly.

On Wednesday, the pradhan took the girls and their parents and met DIG Range, Bareilly, R K S Rathore. The DIG later ordered an FIR.

Additional SP, Bareilly, Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said police came to know about the matter on July 20 when one of the accused youths filed a non-cognizable report (NCR) against three persons alleging assault.
