Date:

A 25-year-old employee of an IT firm riding pillion with her husband was killed after their scooter skid on a pothole on an east Bengaluru flyover on Thursday night. This is third death caused by the city’s notorious potholes in less than a month.

The deceased woman was identified as Suchi Pandey, a resident of Banashankari first stage and native of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Her husband Om Prakash, also a software engineer was injured in the incident.

On Thursday evening, Stuti, with her husband attended Ganesha Puja at their friend’s place in Munekolalu. After the festivities, the couple headed back home on their Honda Activa.

Around 9.30 pm, the couple reached the Devarabeesanahalli flyover on Outer Ring Road, where the accident happened.

Omprakash, tried to avoid the pothole but couldn’t. The bike swerved and they lost balance. Stuthi suffered internal head injuries when they both fell down. She died in the hospital due to a brain haemorrhage, report stated.

Meanwhile, police have booked her husband on drunk driving and cited driver’s negligence.

The flyover is usually full of traffic and the pothole hasn’t been repaired despite the fact that this road is used extensively. Since the pothole is in the middle of the road, it’s more dangerous say commuters.

A police case has been registered and they are investigating how exactly the accident happened. Apparently, there is CCTV footage that will now look at.

Stuti and Om Prakash got married two years ago and had settled in Bengaluru on account of their jobs.

This is the third death caused by a pothole in less than a month. On August 23, Sunitha Kumar, 28, and her son Nikhith Gowda, 10, riding a scooter were hit by a private bus after the mother swerved to the right to avoid a pothole on Tumakuru Road.

While Nikhith was killed on the spot, Sunitha who had rushed with her son’s body in her arms to the hospital died of brain haemorrhage a few days later.
