Gurgaon MP to ride cycle to mark ‘No cars day’

Date:

Gurgaon: Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh will be seen riding cycle on Tuesday on the second ‘No Cars Day’ which was initiated in the Millennium city since last Tuesday.

Gurgaon traffic police have invited minister of state and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh to participate in the city’s car-free day on Tuesday.

Car-free day aims to revive city’s road network by promoting the use of public and non-motorised transport.
Singh will take the metro from Delhi to reach Gurgaon, from where he will ride a cycle to a private company in DLF Cyber City.

“We have invited the Union minister to participate in car-free day on Tuesday. We have also requested him to reach Gurgaon by the metro. This is to promote the use of public transport among residents and office-goers. We will also present before him the traffic problems in Gurgaon and a plan to make the city congestion-free. He will also ride a bicycle with us to the presentation venue at Cyber City,” Joint commissioner of police (traffic) Bharti Arora said.

Arora also discussed a similar plan with Haryana public works department minister Rao Narbir Singh on Sunday.

The minister and the officer on special duty to the CM, Jawahar Yadav, recalled their childhood days when they used to cross NH 8 through culverts.

“It was discussed and agreed that the road design in the city is not in sync with the mobility requirement. This results in congestion and other traffic issues. The intersections of Shankar Chowk and Huda City Centre have not be been designed correctly, posing a threat to the safety of commuters and pedestrians,” said Arora.

On Sunday, Arora along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and DLF inspected culverts along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway from Shankar Chowk to Kherki Daula. They plan to convert 16 culverts, which have fallen into disrepair due to non-usage, into underpasses.

“We have instructed NHAI and DLF to clean the culverts at Shankar Chowk to make them usable on car-free day,” said Arora
