NDFB (S) ultra killed in encounter

An NDFB (Songbijit) militant was killed in an encounter with police in Mazbat area of Udalguri district of Assam tonight, a senior police official said.

Based on tip-off regarding movement of NDFB (S) militants, a team led by Udalguri Superintendent of Police Bir Bikram Gogoi conducted an operation during which a fierce exchange of fire ensued with a group of NDFB (S) militants at River Rowta near Rowta Gate), under Mazbat police station, IGP L R Bishnoi said.

In the gun-battle, one militant of NDFB(S)’s ’43rd’ batch died of bullet injuries, while others fled under cover of darkness, he said.

Stating the insurgent was identified as Thopsa Basumatary alias B Onsai of Sonitpur district, the IGP said one 7.65 caliber pistol with magazine, four rounds of 7.65 caliber live ammunition, two empty cases of 7.65 caliber ammunition and two mobile handsets were recovered by police from the encounter site.

Search operation was on to apprehend the escaped militants.
