When Rajasthan enjoys brutal dog fight

Date:

Hanumangarh (Rajasthan): With winters approaching, the people swarm the farmhouses of Hanumangarh to experience ‘high-profile’ dog fights.

Through secret groups on the social media, the affluent people of Rajasthan gather their expensive dog breeds to enjoy a bloody dog fight.

The fights are not only a source of entertainment but also witness huge amounts of betting, usually in lakhs.

The dogs are trained to fight and are then left to face each other on a hungry stomach, leading to aggressive behaviour.

In many cases, the fight even leads to the death of dogs.

The local police keeps a check on such activities, yet the tradition is being followed openly.

“The dog fighting event is organised in winters. Whenever we get any information, we take action and we will keep doing so in the future also,” said Superintendent of Police, Hanumangarh district, Gaurav Yadav.

Dog fighting was a traditional outdoor sport in many villages. The Supreme Court put a ban on the same last year.
