CM asks media to project Nagaland in right perspective

Date:

Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang today asked journalists to project the state and society in the right perspective to the rest of the world.

“We do have negative side and we regret the same. Nagaland is known to the rest of the country and the world for all the wrong reasons. But there are also other things taking place every day in the state than insurgency,” he said.

Zeliang was addressing a programme celebrating 25 years of the Nagaland Post, the first daily newspaper of the state, in Dimapur.

In a place like Nagaland, where there are conflicts of opinion and ideologies, newspapers play a crucial role in resolution of differences among the various entities, he said.

He, however, cautioned journalists that speculative reporting should be avoided.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the media in Nagaland will continue to play a vital role towards bringing various sections of the Naga society together, and also towards the final solution of the prolonged Naga political issue.

Zeliang said journalism is more of a service to people than a business venture in this part of the world.

He said contrary to popular belief that print media is on the verge of collapse because of the increasing popularity of internet and TV news channels, it continues to play a vital role in dissemination of news in Nagaland.

Governor of Assam and Nagaland, P B Acharya congratulated the proprietor and editor-in-chief of Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden, and his team for upholding the best tradition of journalism by being the voice of the people and the voiceless.
