Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy discussed various issues relating to effective implementation of Skill India mission in Sikkim with the state’s Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling here.

“The discussions primarily revolved around setting up of new institutes in the fields of Life Sciences, Construction & Tourism (Adventure Sports, hospitality, etc) and aligning the skill development courses with National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) certification, a new framework which has been created to bring the entire skilling landscape under one roof,” an official statement said.

The meeting between Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rudy and Chamling took place yesterday.

“Assuring full support in creating skill development infrastructure in the state, Rudy suggested that the state Government may also undertake reforms in identifying the credible training providers and strengthening its skill development mission,” the statement said.

Rudy also highlighted his Ministry’s commitment in fostering the skill development initiatives in the state and provisions to establish Drivers’ Training Institutes and Industrial Training Institutes in un-served blocks of Sikkim.

“Sikkim and the entire north-east is a priority for the Government. I am personally reviewing the progress and implementation of skill development programs in the northeast.

“My recent visit to Sikkim was part of the series of reviews I would be undertaking in the future. My Ministry is committed to the development of the north-east and assures full support and cooperation to enable the region reap its demographic dividend,” stated the Minister.

Besides, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with the World Bank, has proposed a skill training project which aims to strengthen the Government’s skill development programs by linking them with state missions to create a framework for the effective implementation of the skill development schemes.

The project proposes supporting the development of State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs) to facilitate the convergence of all skill training activities within a state.
