Sri Lankan Navy detains four Indian fishermen

Date:

Four Indian fishermen along with their boats have been detained by the Sri Lankan Navy today in the early hours near Thalai Mannar and Palk Strait.

Last month, the Sri Lankan Navy had arrested 14 Tamil fishermen and detained their three fishing boats. The country had released 126 Tamil fishermen lodged in Lankan jail as a goodwill gesture.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa had sent a letter last week urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use diplomatic channel to secure the release of 14 Tamil fishermen already in Lankan jail and release of 50 fishing boats from Lankan custody.
