Ready to become CM for 4th term: Gogoi

Date:

Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi said he is ready to become Chief Minister of Assam for the fourth consecutive term.
“Yes, I am ready,” he said at a press conference here when asked whether he would be the Chief Minister again.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had recently declared that the 79-year-old Congress veteran would be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the party in the coming Assam assembly polls likely to be held in March-April next year.
Gogoi has been Chief Minister of Assam for the third consecutive term since 2001.
The Chief Minister claimed Congress will get absolute majority in the polls and ruled out any alliance with any party, including Badaruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF.
“Why should we forge an alliance when we are in a position to form a government on our own. We will get absolute majority,” he said.
Gogoi also described his once deputy Himanta Biswa Sarmah, who has joined BJP recently, as a traitor saying that he would soon desert BJP too.
“There was a TADA case against Himanta. He was accused of being involved in several corruption cases. I will expose him soon,” he said.
