Owning a vehicle in the past decades used to be a status symbol in an Indian society. But now, every house in India owns at least one vehicle.

Let’s go back in the era of 1980s and 1990s when there used to be clear roads with hardly any car and mainly two-wheelers were the mode of transport other than the public transport.

But, moving ahead with time, things started to change and people started to get variety of options for their transportation.

Bajaj Chetak


Named after the legendary horse of Indian warrior Rana Pratap Singh, Bajaj Chetak was the most popular Indian-made motor scooter produced by the Bajaj Auto Company.
Chetak was an affordable means of transportation for millions of Indian families for decades and is lovingly called Hamara Bajaj.

Yamaha RX 100


Yamaha’s RX100 was one of the popular motorcycles in the era of late 1980s and 1990s because of its iconic sound. Every youth in that era wished to own a RX100.
RX100 sported a 98 cc two-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled engine and the bike was manufactured between 1985 and 1996 in India.

Maruti 800


Maruti 800, India’s family car, was manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India since 1983 till 2013.
Widely regarded as the most influential automobile in India, about 2.87 million ‘800s’ were produced during its course of with 2.66 million were sold in India itself.
Maruti was 5-door hatchback with 796 cc (0.8 L) engine having 4-speed transmission, which was later upgraded to 5-speed.

Ambassador


Ambassador, an Indian car manufactured by Hindustan Motors since late 1950s, was primarily used by Indian politicians. It became a household name in India with its wide and dynamic looks and used to be a sign of luxury for Indians and owning one used to be a big deal then.

Gypsy King


India’s then sportscar Gypsy King was introduced in 1985 by Maruti with 970 cc F10A Suzuki engine and four-wheel-drive vehicle, based on the long wheelbase. While sales were never very high, the car became very popular with law enforcement.
Due to its powerful engine capacity, Gypsy King is primarily used by Indian Armed forces and Police forces especially in the hilly areas. But still owning a Gypsy King will catch everyone’s eyes on roads.

Hero Honda Splendor


Bajaj Chetak being India’s family scooter, Splendor is India’s most popular motorbike with best fuel efficiency and best suitable for Indian road conditions.
Manufactured by Hero Honda, Splendor comes with electronic ignition and a tubular double cradle type frame with a 97.2 cc engine
