At once ethereally dreamy and knock-you-over glamorous, Marchesa’s Spring 2017 collection naturally brought out the stars at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday evening.
The celebrity-beloved line founded by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig is known for its hyper-femininity and show-stopping red carpet appeal, and the latest turnout of intricately-beaded cocktail dresses and flowing gowns didn’t disappoint. Inspired by ‘beauty from sunrise to twilight’, the collection was marked by lush 3D florals constructed of fluttering fabrics and glitzy sequins, tiered ruffles and ombré chiffon that reflected the sky at sunset, and dramatic metallics that evoked the ‘serenity of night’.
‘From the moment the sun appears over the horizon to meet the iridescent morning dew to the deepest part of night, the day’s passage embodies Marchesa’s signature aesthetic,’ the designers explained.
Jaw-dropping! Marchesa presented its Spring 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday.
An ode to Mother Nature: The collection was inspired by ‘beauty from sunrise to twilight’
Totally gorgeous: Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are known for their ultra-glamorous and relentlessly feminine creations.
So glam: In between ruffles and florals, a few gowns went heavy on the metallics.
Moody: Colors like this midnight blue played homage to the sky — particularly the ombré effect that looks like the sky darkening at night
Girly appeal: Georgina and Keren also played with iridescent fabrics which caught the light as they went down the runway
Fancy footwear: Models all wore Marchesa shoes, some with sequin floral detailing similar to that on the dresses.
Breathtaking! Guests at the show perked up when some of the larger, more sweeping gowns came down the runway
Inspiration: The designers explained in press material that ‘the day’s passage embodies Marchesa’s signature aesthetic’
Classic: They added that delicate petal embroidery, like on this gown, mirrors ‘the softness of the midday skies’
