Four-wheeler giant Volvo has taken yet another start to dominate further in the Indian luxury car market with the launch of the flagship sedan S90. Despite being a CBU product, Volvo hijacked the show with the pricing of the S90 which is set at Rs 53.50 lakh.
Substituting the S80 sedan, the S90 arrives with all new design language. It is based on company’s SPA platform and displays design cues from the all-new XC90 SUV. Front face sport the massive Volvo signature grille, very well greeted by the sharp Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs, while the rear gets the same C-shaped tail lamps.

Inside, the cabin of Volvo S90 feels airy and spacious thanks to the beige in interiors and increased wheelbase. The feature-rich cabin carries a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that holds GPS navigation and Apple CarPlay, multi-functional 3-spoke steering wheel, Heads Up Display (HUD) unit, electrically adjustable front seats with memory & ventilation functions and 1400 watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Initially, the new Volvo S90 will be offered only with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that makes 190bhp of power and 400Nm of peak torque. The engine comes joined to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The sedan can be driven in three different modes – Eco, Comfort, and Sport.
The S90 will be sold in India as CBU import. Bookings for the sedan have started and the deliveries will commence from December. It will take on the rivals like the Audi A6, BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class and Jaguar’s XF.
