Ruckus in RS over Army deployment in West Bengal

Amid Army deployment in West Bengal, an uproar was witnessed in the Rajya Sabha on Friday as opposition leaders asked the centre to reply to which Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the Army was deployed without ulterior motive in West Bengal and the deployment was routine exercise.

It is army’s routine exercise being carried out since many years, 19th and 21st November 2015 it had taken place too: Defence Minister said in Lok Sabha. Concerned officials were intimated by Army this year too. Original dates were 28,29 & 30Dec, were changed to 1st and 2nd Dec later; Parrikar added

After Opposition allegation, MoS Defence Subhash Ramrao Bhamre said that the information that this House has is “factually incorrect.” “Army was in Bengal for a routine exercise..” Bhamre said but the Opposition raised a ruckus.

While Kurien tried to calm the Upper House, Opposition leaders raised slogans against Narendra Modi government and its “tanashahi” (dictatorship).

TMC leader slammed the BJP government for deploying Army in West Bengal. Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu told Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien that the deployment was a routine exercise and casting aspersions on the prime minister is not acceptable.
