Free Internet data, talktime for Goa youth from December 5

Date:

Panaji: In line with the central government’s Digital India initiative, the Goa Government will launch its ambitious scheme providing limited free talk time and Internet data to the youth in the state on Monday.

Goa Yuva Sanchar Yojana will be unveiled on Monday. It will be launched across the state providing 100 minutes talk time and 3 GB Internet data free with a SIM card (every month) for youths aged between 16-30 years,” Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.

He said the government has tied up with private mobile services provider Vodafone for the scheme which will benefit nearly 1.25 lakh youth.

Parsekar said the state Cabinet on November 25 had granted its approval to the programme which is in line with the Digital India initiative of the Narendra Modi Government.

The Chief Minister said the government has made a provision to discontinue the scheme if a beneficiary is found to be misusing it.

The Digital India initiative is a flagship programme of the Modi Government that seeks to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

Launched in July last year, the programme aims to provide a much-needed thrust to areas like broadband highways, universal access to mobile connectivity, public Internet access programme and e-Governance.
