Lamborghini unveils all new Aventador S with 740 HP

Date:

In what could be a treat for all automobile enthusiasts, Lamborghini has finally taken the wraps off the all-new Aventador S with a long list of technical and aerodynamic changes and an addition to the power of 40 extra horses from the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine.

Even though Lamborghini calls it a new ‘generation car’, it more of looks like a facelift because there isn’t any revolutionary update in the car. Starting from the looks, it has got many small and sharp changes in the exterior design but the profile still remains clearly an Aventador. The main focus of the car seems to be in the direction of making it more aerodynamic leading it to have better stability and handling.

A sharper edgy nose and longer front splitter doesn’t only give it an aggressive front face but also redirect airflow for better aerodynamic efficiency. There are two additional air ducts at the sides of the front bumper that reduces aerodynamic interference from the front tyres. With the revised front end, front downforce of the Aventador S has been improved by more than 130% over the previous Aventador coupé.

At the rear, the Aventador S gets a black diffuser, available on request in carbon fiber. The active rear wing is movable in three positions depending on speed and drive select mode. When the wing is in its optimum position, the overall efficiency at high downforce is improved by over 50%, and in low drag by more than 400% compared to the previous model.

Even though the Aventador S continues with the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, the engineers at Lamborghini have managed to add the power of 40 more horses into it, resulting a total output of max 740 hp of power and 690 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. Also, the maximum engine revs have been increased from 8350 to 8500 rpm.

WATCH: What’s happening around the World:

Transmission is provided by Lamborghini’s lightweight Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) 7-speed shifting system, that can switch gear in as quick as 50 milliseconds. Putting all the numbers in performance, the Aventador S does 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h.

One more major change in the Aventador is the introduction of the four-wheel steering system, adopted for the first time on a series production Lamborghini. This system provides improved agility at low and medium speeds and more stability at high speed. All the suspensions and driving modes have been re-calibrated to match up with the new four-wheel steering to have more responsive handling, better stability and confident cornering even at high speeds.

The Aventador S can now be driven in four different driving modes: Strada, Sport, Corsa and the new Ego mode. Strada stands for maximum comfort and daily use, Sports mode provides a sporty, rear-wheel drive feel where up to 90 power is sent to rear wheels while the Corsa mode is suitable for maximum track performance. In the new Eco mode, the driver can select different setting combinations for traction (engine, gearbox, 4WD), steering and suspension from the upper three modes.

The cockpit of the Aventador S gets a new TFT digital dashboard that can be customised according to the driver’s preferences. To the drivers who loves to take the beast on the track, the supercar now features an optional Lamborghini telemetry system that records lap times and track performance as well as trip data.
