India to get the world’s largest cricket stadium, leaving behind Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground

Date:

India will soon get the world’s largest cricket stadium in Gujarat. The Sardar Patel stadium is rebuilt to seat 1,10,000 people. It will leave behind the Melbourne Cricket Ground which has 90,000 seats.

There are many big stadiums in India which include Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, an iconic cricket venue, could hold over 100,000 people before its 2011 upgrade that brought down the seating capacity by 40%. The same city is also home to a multi-sports venue, The Salt Lake Stadium, that can seat about 100,000.

This Sardar Patel stadium will be built on 63 acres and will take two years to get completed and is being built by India’s largest construction companies, Larsen & Toubro.

The stone laying ceremony has been done by the Gujarat Cricket Association’s vice-president Parimal Nathwani and he took it to social media:

“The stadium will have 76 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms, a clubhouse and an Olympic-size swimming pool,” Mr Parimal said, according to reports.
