Atri Kar, first transgender to appear in West Bengal Civil Services exam

Date:

A 27-year-old school teacher, Atri Kar filled up form for West Bengal Civil Services exam but to her surprise, the WBSC hadn’t notified the “transgender” category on its application form.

After she was unheard by the WBSC, she went to Court. While the Railway Recruitment Board application form had notified the “others” in gender category, the results clubbed Kar in general category. She also took this matter to Calcutta High Court.
