Gurgaon’s Cyber Hub to go ‘Dry’ from April 1, this is the reason why

We reported the story on how laws were bypassed to make way for alcohol in Chandigarh, but for Gurgaon this seems to be an unlikely solution for booze lovers.

34 pubs and bars in Gurgaon’s CyberHub will have to shut down after Supreme Court on Friday upheld its December 15 order which mandated that sale of liquor will not be allowed within 500 metres of all national and state highways.

Haryana excise department had earlier identified 109 pubs and 43 liquor vends in Gurgaon which are located within 500 metres of the state and national highways in Gurgaon.

The liquor vends will have to be shut down as per the SC judgement from  April 1.

Bars in several five-star hotels and resorts, located along the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, will have to stop selling liquor from tomorrow, and this is no April Fool prank.

On Friday, the bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice L Nageswara Rao, however, relaxed the ban to 220 metres for towns having less than 20,000 a population which fall along the highways

On December 15, the Supreme Court had directed states and union territories to stop sale of liquor within 500 metres of national and the state highways, as well as on service lanes along highways as it was observed that drunk driving was responsible for majority of accidents on the national highways.
