Chhattisgarh bans use of red beacons with immediate effect

The Chhattisgarh government today banned the use of red beacons by ministers and officers atop their vehicles with immediate effect in the state.

Chief Minister Raman Singh issued instructions in this regard to his ministers, parliamentary secretaries and other officers.

The Union Cabinet yesterday decided that beacon light will be removed from all vehicles, including that of Prime Minister, from May 1.

Following in the footsteps of the Centre, several state governments announced a ban on the use of beacons by ministers and officers.

Interacting with the media persons here, Singh welcomed the Modi government’s decision to end the culture of beacons on VIP vehicles and termed it as a “historic step”.

“I have instructed all ministers, parliamentary secretaries and chairpersons of corporations, mandals and commissions to stop using red beacons with immediate effect,” the CM said.

There was no need to wait till May 1 to implement the decision, Singh said.

The Chief Minister was here to attend a two-day executive meet of the state BJP which began today.

Singh also tweeted today “In spirit of @Narendra Modi ji’s decision, instructed ministers to stop using #RedBeacon immediately. Humility & service must go hand in hand.
