More than 140 Afghan troops killed as Taliban attacks army base

Disguising as Afghan army, Taliban entered the northern Afghanistan army base on Friday and killed more than 140 soldiers in a gun and suicide attack. The US military confirmed the news as Taliban upped their audacity after the Trump government dropped MOAB a few days ago.

One of the attackers has been detained but rest of the group was killed in the attack. The attack lasting for hours took place near Mazar-i-Sharif city in which the soldiers were aimed at a mosque and dining facility. Afghan defence ministry said that while seven aggressors died in the assault, two blew themselves up.
There has been a class in the death toll numbers from the US and Afghan officials after the incident. While the US said it is more than 50, Afghan officials reported 8 casualties and 11 wounded in the incident. But now the figure has jumped to 140 with around 160 injured.

Taliban has claimed that it has killed over 500 soldiers in the attack.

In the past year, the death rates of the soldiers have risen rapidly. In 2016, a total of 6,800 soldiers and police officers were killed.

After the attack, military helicopters and ambulances helped to carry the bodies of the victim away.

The attack brought back fresh memories from early March this year when gunmen dressed as doctors killed a dozen at Sardar Daud Khan hospital in Kabul.
