Date:

It is a different Sunday for the Delhiites.  It is not a usual Sunday to begin with Chole Bhature and lassi for them. But the priority for more that 1.3 crore voters of Delhi is to cast their mandate for the crucial civic body poll.

Since morning Delhi is standing on the queue in 13000 booths across the national capital.  The fate of Kejriwal’s AAP, BJP and Congress are in their hands.

People are seen pouring in with great numbers and enthusiasm in the polling booths spread across 272 wards. They prefer to vote early to beat the summer heat, which become scorching in the latter half of the day.  High security in polling booths can also be observed to ensure secured and safe polling.

In the beginning Aam Aadmi Party raised its objections on the Electronic Voting Machines and preferred ballots for the polling. But it had been ruled out by the Chief Election Commission and Generation-1, EVMs are being used to ensure “fool proof” polling by the Election commission.

This election is a prestige fight for BJP, who will be looking for a third consecutive term in MCD.  The results for Aam Aadmi Party will be seen as their report card, which is ruling the state since 2015. But for Congress it will be a tough fight to regain its lost glory.

This is also an acid test for Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP after their recent defeat in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden by poll. The party also faced defeats in Punjab and Goa assembly elections.

There are more than 1.1 lakh first-time voter among 1.3 crore voters.  Out of the 13,022 polling stations,  Delhi police authorities have declared 3,284 as sensitive and 1,464 as hypersensitive.

This is the first time that the voters are getting an option of  “None of the Above” or NOTA  in the Delhi municipal elections.

The results for the civic polls are  to be declared on April 26.
