Before the name and fame, this Aussie hunk worked as a waiter, a barman, and a surf-wear shop clerk.
Childhood
Chris Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 in Melbourne. As a kid, Hemsworth with his parents divided their time between the coastal city and an Aboriginal cattle station. Acting was his first passion and surfing was his second.
After attending Heathmont Secondary College, the aspiring star snagged minor roles in television shows Down Under.
Career
Hemsworth followed in the footsteps of other famous Aussies like Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Simon Baker and Naomi Watts by becoming a regular on the soap opera Home and Away. After three seasons of playing character Kim Hyde, he headed stateside to continue his entertainment career.
In 2006, he competed on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars, but was eliminated after the fifth episode.
It didn’t take long for the actor to make it onto the American silver screen when he appeared in the 2009 remake of ‘Star Trek’. His part was enough to lead to a huge Hollywood opportunity.
Hemsworth auditioned for the lead in the superhero film ‘Thor’. Overcoming stiff competition (including his younger brother) he played the role of the Norse God. The box-office success of the movie elevated Hemsworth to A-List status.
The following year, he became Thor once more in the ‘The Avengers’. Hemsworth was then cast to play the character for a third time in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World.
Following up the record-breaking success of ‘The Avengers’, Hemsworth starred in in ‘Snow White and theHuntsman’. The film opened at number one, pulling in $56.3 million in its first weekend.
In 2013, Hemsworth starred in sports drama film ‘Rush’ which was well received.
Personal Life
Hemsworth began dating Spanish actress Elsa Pataky and they wed in December 2010. They have three children.
His older brother Luke and younger brother Liam are also actors.
