Heat wave in Bilaspur intensified with record breaking maximum temperature of 49.3-degree celsius on Monday.
“The maximum temperature of 49.3 degrees Celsius recorded in Bilaspur on Monday is the highest ever temperature recorded in the state. Although, confirmation in this aspect is going on,” Prakash Kher, Director of Meteorological Center of Raipur said.

It has broken the last record by staggering 2 degrees, while the last record was 47.4-degree celsius on 23rd of May in 2013. The temperature is constantly hitting 47 degrees in the region according to the department.
“These weather conditions can be attributed to the dry and hot winds from northwest persisting over Chhattisgarh. Not only this, the central part of the country is experiencing a heat wave in May due to the condition of the sun,” the director said the reason behind such rise in mercury.
