Jeep rolls out first ‘Made in India’ Compass

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) subsidiary, Jeep has rolled out the first ‘Made-in-India’ Jeep Compass in a ceremony attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant near Pune.

FCA’s Ranjangaon facility joins the company’s global production facilities situated in Mexico, Brazil, and China. The facility will serve as FCA’s manufacturing and export hub for its global and domestic markets for right-hand drive models.compass-on-production-line

Jeep entered the Indian automotive market with two of its popular models – the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both the models were imported completely built. The Compass is the American off-road manufacturers first model to be built in India.

Jeep will offer the Compass with Fiat’s 2.0 MultiJet diesel and 1.4 MultiAir petrol engines for the Indian models. The Compass will be available in 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The Jeep Compass is expected to directly compete against the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V.
