Date:

The Government of India and Bangladesh have together selected a site to establish a border haat in Dhalai district of Tripura. ‘’We have agreed to set up a border haat at Kamalpur (kurmaghat) after conducting an on spot visit by a joint Indo-Bangla team,’’ said the Additional District Magistrate of Dhalai, D.K. In a meeting that was held yesterday, along with the location, the items to be sold and the finalization of vendors were done, in the presence of Additional DM of Moulavi Bazar of Bangladesh, Chakma said. He further added ‘’ This was the first meeting of border haat management committee and it was very much successful. We will meet on regular basis to establish the Border Haat at the earliest.’’

As per the guidelines, border haats should come up along the zero line of Indo-Bangla Border. However, there was a problem too in setting up the haat at kamalpur/kurmaghat as a canal would come in the way if it was set up along the zero line of the international border. To find a solution of this problem an expert will be sent to the site by The Industries and Commerce Department.

Currently two border haats are functional in Tripura. One of which is situated at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district and the other is at Srinagar in South Tripura District. The location of another haat which is to be established at Raghna in North Tripura has been selected.
