Chinese woman goes blind after a 24 hour gaming binge

A 21-year-old Chinese woman has been rendered partially blind after playing a video game, ‘Honour of Kings’ continuously for a span of 24 hours.

The gaming addict has not yet disclosed her name and has been said to have suddenly lost vision in her right eye after playing the game continuously for several hours.

She was immediately taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with Retinal Artery Occlusion (RAO) – a condition usually found in the elderly and rarely seen in the young.

Sources say that she used to play this game on a daily basis. As soon as she got home from work and the whole day during the weekend, all she did was play the game. Neither did she respond to her parents calling her during meals nor did she sleep for a long duration. All of her focus was on playing this multiplayer game every second.

According to a woman at her workplace that works in finance, the blindness was probably caused by playing the game for too long without a break.

About the game, Honour of Kings”: A historical battle game has 200 million registered players in China alone and has been denounced for being too addictive.

The doctors suggest that while playing online games, one should take a break after every half an hour to mitigate the damage it will cause to eyesight. One should focus on their eyesight and its sensitivity towards the light that enters the eye when one plays online games.
