Hospital gives pain killer to 4-month-old in Delhi, child dies

Date:

In what seems to be a clear case of medical negligence, a four-month-old baby died at Delhi’s Jaipur Golden Hospital in Rohini after being administered pain killer injection for temporary relief from a surgery.

According to the family, the child was taken to the hospital on 17th January after suffering a cut on the upper lip. The doctors had stitched-up the cut after taking consent from the family.

After the minor surgery, the child continued crying in pain. Upon being informed about the persisting pain, the doctors took the baby boy away and administered pain-killer injection to him.

The family, that has now filed a complaint to the police, noticed that the child had gone totally silent and motionless after he was bought back after being injected. Seeing this the family sought the doctors to intervene once more.

The doctors checked the baby and rushed the infant to the ICU. After about an hour in the ICU, a doctor came and informed the family of the baby’s demise due to reactions from the pain-killer.

The family upon hearing this rushed to the hospital’s medical superintendent but were told that since it was a case of medical reaction, nothing much could be done.

The family then filed a police complaint against the hospital and the doctors involved in the infant’s treatment.

In 2015, in a similar case in the same hospital, Anamika Ray, a 36-year-old academician from Assam had died of blood infection while undergoing a surgery.
