Pollution in Delhi has been a major problem for some time now. Factors responsible for such increasing pollution are many. Recently one of the major reasons came in the light which buses were coming from neighboring states and also the ones in commuting in Delhi.
According to the report of Delhi Government submitted to the state assembly, it was found out buses more than 7000 majorly coming from neighboring states were found to be polluting the environment and not following flouting pollution norms in the past 6 years.

Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot said during the ongoing session of the assembly that,”the total of 7219 buses were challaned for not having valid pollution under check (PUC) certificates, from 2012-2013 till February 2018”
All the buses that were challaned were from different places. The highest number of buses that was 3328 was from Uttar Pradesh, which was followed by 2064 from Rajasthan. After that Delhi registered 643 buses for not having PUC.
The further minister added that action against buses causing pollution was picked up manifold in last one year. A total number of 5086 buses were challaned for not having PUC, from 2017 until February of this year.

The fine for not having valid PUC is Rs. 1000. The state transport authority of Delhi has no power to cancel permits of buses from other states, violating norms in the city under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
Also, as per a joint agreement among states sharing the National Capital Region, it is mandatory that buses entering Delhi are run on CNG.
