For those who have waited on railway platforms way beyond the arrival time of trains now have a cause for cheer. RailYatri, a travel start-up, has come up with a way of predicting the estimated time of arrival, using machine learning with precision based on the data.
According to the start-up, train travellers in India have accepted delays as part of their train journeys but the existing system does not guide them correctly on the ETA of trains.
RailYatri’s algorithm uses machine learning and statistical modelling techniques to predict the arrival time of running trains at their upcoming stoppage with much better precision.
The existing method to predicting the ETA is typically based on the distance divided by the speed of the train added with some buffer time for safety formula. The algorithm takes ground realities such as increasing traffic, rush, seasonality, etc into consideration.
