Coal India Limited, a company that produces more than three-fourths of the country’s coal, has a new acting chairman. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has issued the directive appointing Suresh Kumar, an additional secretary in the coal ministry, as the new acting chairman. He will replace Gopal Singh, who was the acting chairman.
Gopal Singh was given interim charge when Sutirtha Bhattacharya retired as full-time chairman eight months ago. Since then search for a chairman and managing director has been on. The PESB has conducted interviews and told the government it could not find any suitable candidate. The government then set up a search committee under cabinet secretary.
