Ajay Bisaria to proceed to Canada as High Commissioner

Date:

Ajay Bisaria has been appointed as the next Indian High Commissioner to Canada on Friday. He is an officer of the Indian Foreign Service (1987 batch).

He will be succeeding Vikas Swarup who has been appointed as Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs.

Ajay Bisaria was the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, before Pakistan decided to downgrade their diplomatic ties with India and he was sent back to India.

This came in the back drop of the Indian parliament’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and revoke the special status previously conferred on the former state of Jammu and Kashmir and reorganizing the former state into the two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

India’s relations with Canada is vibrant and has encompassed various facets of cooperation such as the diaspora, nuclear technology, artificial intelligence and IT.

However, Canada’s reluctance to crackdown on the important issue of Pakistan state sponsored terrorism in the form of support to the Khalistan issue is an irritant in the ties between the two countries.

Canada will hope to facilitate the migration of skilled Indian labour into their nation.

Bisaria has also served as the nation’s envoy to Poland and is responsible for bringing a strategic partner from Eastern Europe closer to India.
