Date:

Kochi, Aug 19 (PTI) A local court today rejected the bailplea of Ameerul Islam, prime accused in the brutal murder of aDalit law student at Perumbavoor in April. The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, which consideredthe bail plea moved by Islam, noted that the case is underinvestigation and this is not a fit case for granting regularbail to the accused. The court took note of the Public Prosecutor’s argumentthat Islam had moved to Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu aftercommitting the crime and evaded arrest for a long period. Islam was arrested on the charge of killing the lawstudent, 50 days after the gruesome incident, that had becomea major issue in the recent Kerala Assembly elections. The 30-year-woman who hailed from a poor family, wasallegedly raped and brutally assaulted using sharp-edgedweapons before being murdered at her house on April 28. PTITGB APRZMNMVV
