Digital Concerts: All set to take off?

Date:

Over the last few months living and working out of the safe confines of your home has become second nature. Of course all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy may have started ringing true in your ears by now. If you are done watching all the happening series on streaming sites, what’s next you ask?! How about attending a concert of your favourite artist online?

BTS, the popular South Korean boyband will be hosting a live concert ‘Bang Bang Con The Live’ on June 14, 2020. The live stream will be paid and viewers can enjoy the entire experience from the comfort of their home. The tickets can be availed at Weverse app or website at $26.9. Members of the Global Official Fan Club Army may get them at a discount price. This comes after the success of their 24-hour online weekend concert, hosted in April 2020 which garnered 50.59 million views.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band.

BTS announced the concert on all social media platforms. “Join us for ARMY’s very special “On-Contact” experience with BTS with BANG BANG CON The Live”, their Facebook post read.

The concept of live online concerts isn’t new but with famous singers from across the globe taking to it, the world is taking notice. On April 18, 2020, a six-hour show, “One World: Together at Home was streamed online in support of the World Health Organisation. Artists like Niall Horan, Meghan Trainor, Charlie Puth and many more came together for the fundraiser.  “I for India” fundraiser also gained massive support and funds which featured artists like A R Rahman, Ankit Tiwari and Diljit Dosanjh to name a few.

The virtual concert raised Rs 52 cr for the COVID-19 relief fund

The success of these events has encouraged artists and music labels to try their luck on digital platforms. Since the previous online concerts focused majorly on fundraising and entertainment, BTS is now among the few artists who are venturing in the digital world for commercial success as well.
