Gaziabad: Legendary cricketer and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar attended the 82nd anniversary celebration of the Indian Air Force at Hindon base on Wednesday. Tendulkar was seen in the Air Force uniform and was accompanied by wife Anjali.
Along with them, Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan and Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag were also present at the IAF Day parade.
The iconic batsman was conferred with the IAF honorary rank of Group Captain to honour his cricketing achievements in 2010 amid much fanfare.
He was the first personality with no aviation background to receive the honour. The rank was conferred on Tendulkar under the provision of granting honorary rank by armed forces to eminent personalities acknowledging their contribution towards the nation.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) was officially established on October 8, 1932. The flypast comprised aircrafts like the MIG-21, MIG-29, Sukhoi-30 MKI, Globemaster, Hercules and Mirage 2000 which performed various daring maneuvers like dolphin, cross over, lower, closer and double crisscross mid-air, enthralling the audience.
