G20 Summit 2022: Key Points From PM Modi’s Address To Indian Diaspora In Bali

Bali: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Indian diaspora at the Indian community event in Bali, Indonesia on the sidelines of G20 summit.

PM Modi is currently participating in two-day G20 summit themed “Recover Together, Recover Stronger.”


Here are the key notes from PM Narendra Modi’s speech

  • India’s Cuttack is 1500 km away from Indonesian is celebrating Bali Yatra Mahotsav- Bali Jatra. This Mahotsav celebrates thousands of years old India-Indonesia trade relations.

“When people of Indonesia see photos of this year’s Bali Jatra on internet, they will be proud and happy. Due to the issues arising due to COVID, some hurdles had cropped up. After several years, Bali Jatra Mahotsav is being celebrated on a grand scale with mass participation in Odisha.” he said.

  • PM Modi mentioned that India’s overall imports increase to USD 73 bn in October 2022 from USD 65.28 bn in the same month last year and its overall exports increased to USD 58.36 bn in October 2022 from USD 56.10 bn in the same month last year.

 

  • PM Modi said the relations between India and Indonesia stand strong during both good and difficult times. Also remebered the time in 2018, when Indonesia was affected by an earthquake and India immediately started operation Samudra Maitri.

  • PM Modi also claimed that “India is a ray of hope for the world in the 21st century.”

  • “A few months back, on 15th Aug, India celebrated 75 years of independence. Indonesia’s independence day comes two days after India’s – on 17th August. But Indonesia was fortunate to attain independence two years before India. There is a lot that India can learn from Indonesia,” said PM Modi.
  • He added “But in its 75-year-old long development journey, there is a lot that India can give to Indonesia. India’s talent, technology, innovation, industry have made an identity for themselves before the world.”

PM Modi will attend another session on Wednesday, which is on digital transformation and will later visit Mangroove forest.

The annual world leaders meeting is underway in Bali to discuss global challenges.

PM Modi, who met US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, other leaders, earlier in the day, put forth India’s perspective on issues including health, post-pandemic economic recovery, digitization, and energy & food security.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold several bilateral sittings with counterparts on the sidelines of G20 and address the Indian diaspora.

US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are among heads from 20 countries and the European Union who are present in Bali.
