ICC Women’s World Cup 2017: India becomes first team to use DRS

India looks top notch in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 with the convincing win over England in the first match of the tournament. Not only India defeated England by 35 runs, but also makes history Decision Review System (DRS) in women’s cricket.

Indian skipper Mithali Raj decided to take the review after first delivery from spinner Deepti Sharma took the edge past the bat of England’s batswoman Natalie Scriver to safely into Indian wicketkeeper Sushma Verma‘s gloves. Umpire was not convinced with the appeal, the captain decided to trust her wicket keeper on this and decided to go for the first ever DRS in women cricket history, the result went in India’s favour.

India’s big total in the match witnessed three half centuries fro the top order, Smriti Mandhana struck a sizzling 90 off 72 balls, Poonam Raut (86 off 134) and skipper Mithali Raj 71 Not Out. The total proved too big to be chased by England and they fell short of 35 runs. It is also the first win for India against England in last five years.
