At the age of 10, every day she would wake up at 3 am, travel 27 km for her solo training session at 4:30am. Determination, dedication, and discipline shaped her life.
When she became the first Indian to win two medals at the World Badminton Championship (Guangzhou 2013, Copenhagen 2014) and one of the top 10 shuttlers of the world, she was only reaping the fruit of her hard work. Â
The 19-year-old sensation, P V Sindhu is a podium finisher and an Arjuna award winner. Backed by Olympic Gold Quest, she is known for her never-say-die spirit and extraordinary skills.
Early Life
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu was born on July 5, 1995. Â Her parents were volleyball players. Inspired by P.Gopichand, Sindhu chose badminton and first picked the racquet at the age of eight.
Career
As a prodigy, Sindhu won several titles including the singles title at the Sub-Junior Nationals and the All India Ranking in Pune, the under-14 team gold medal at the 51st National School Games in India.
Sindhu quickly gained attention at the international level with her bronze and silver at the 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships, Colombo and 2010 Iran Fajr International Badminton Challenge respectively.
In 2012, Li Ning China Masters Super Series tournament she stunned London 2012 Olympics gold medalist Li Xuerui entering the semifinal. However, she lost out to 4th seeded Jiang Yanjiao in the semifinals.
Despite a knee injury, she went on to participate in the 77th Senior National Badminton Championships in Srinagar and lost out in the finals. Â By the end of the year, she reached her career best ranking of 15.
Sindhu won her maiden Grand Prix Gold title by winning the Malaysian open title 2013. Later that year, she again became a giant killer, this time knocking out defending champion Wang Yihan at the Badminton world championships. She was assured of a medal at the competition with her victory over seventh seeded Wang Shixian.
Riding on the highs of winning the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold title, she entered the Glasgow Commonwealth Games where she bowed out at the semifinals.
