Pinturault gets first Alpine Ski World Cup super G victory

Date:

Alexis Pinturault of France claimed his first World Cup super G victory in the final race of the season Thursday at Lenzerheide.

Pinturault came in ahead of compatriot Thomas Mermillod-Blondin by 0.56sec. Mermillod-Blondin beat American Bode Miller, the Olympic bronze medalist, by one hundredth of a second.

Pinturault, 22, who collected a bronze medal in the giant slalom in Sochi a month ago, underlined his all-round abiliites by adding a super G victory to his previous successes in three other disciplines, having largely concentrated his efforts until now on giant and the slalom.

Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal, who has already secured his fifth Super G title, managed only 16th place and lost precious points in the race for the overall Alpine ski title.
