- A chip shop owner is challenging people to eat what may be the meatiest burger with a total of 10,000 calories, and if they finish the treat, they don’t have to pay anything. Corinne Clarkson, who runs the Mister Eaters Eating Emporium in Lancashire, has called her creation the ‘ Ultimeat-um’ and it consists of a cheeseburger inside another burger and held together by two buns – made from burgers.
- England footie legend David Beckham has unveiled plans to build a 25,000-seat soccer stadium in Miami, America. The announcement follows the former England captain’s launch of a new Major League Soccer team in February. The open-air stadium will be built on Miami’s waterfront in an area known as Port Miami, which hosts the world’s busiest cruise ship terminal.
- The World Meteorological Authority has suggested that many of last year’s weather extremes are likely to have been heavily influenced by rising global temperatures. Heatwaves, cold snaps, violent storms, droughts and floods all played their part in shaping 2013 – as they do every year – but there is growing evidence that human activities are making weather extremes more frequent or extreme.
- A former NASA astronaut has collaborated with chefs at the Four Seasons Resort in Costa Rica to create a multi-course, space-influenced dinner, called‘Taste the Stars’. Franklin Chang Diaz, a seven-time shuttle mission specialist, has successfully blended a real meteorite into a space-rock-infused steak sauce. The tasting menu features molecular cooking techniques and strange ingredients and each of the meal’s courses has a cosmic title, including ‘Universe’ and ‘The Milky Way’.
- Malaysian Prime Minister confirmed their worst fears on Monday, announcing Flight 370 crashed somewhere in the Indian Ocean. But, even as investigators seemed closer than ever to finding the plane, stormy weather forced Australian authorities to call off a day of searching for the Boeing 777.
