- A new study has revealed that humans are in fact born with the basic knowledge of language. While languages differ from each other in many ways, certain aspects appear to be shared across languages. These aspects might stem from verbal principles that are active in all human brains.
- Scientists suggest that an experiment located at the bottom of a gold mine in South Dakota, US, could offer the best chance of detecting dark matter. They believe that this substance makes up more than a quarter of the universe, yet no-one has ever seen it directly. Early results from this detector, which is called LUX, confirmed it was the most powerful experiment of its kind.
- Psychologists have claimed that feelings of failure and frustration lead to aggression in video game players rather than the videos’ violent content. The study is the first to look at the player’s psychological experience with video games instead of focusing solely on its content. Researchers found that failure to master a game and its controls led to frustration and aggression, regardless of whether the game was violent or not.
- Australian search vessel Ocean Shield has picked up two more signals from what could be the black box from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Angus Houston, head of the Australian-led search effort, said the vessel detected signals that are consistent with airplane locator beacons on two more occasions, adding that the search could be moving in the right direction.
- A photograph of Mars sent by Curiosity rover, features a blip of light on the horizon, sparking people’s interest with UFO enthusiasts speculating that it could be an artificial light source. Rover’s right navigation camera clicked the image. A close-up of the light makes it look like it has a flat bottom and rises upward, where it dissolves.
