Hyderabad: Riding on scams scars of DMK, Jayalalitha managed to win the confidence of the public back in 2011 itself, and the flurry of events after that have just helped her strengthen her hold on the state. With her AIADMK party members taking her word for law and her schemes getting her a 10/10, the support she’s received doesn’t really come as a surprise.

She didn’t really go for big talk, but made significant changes in the basic needs. For example her ‘Amma Canteens’ in Tamil Nadu to sell food items at affordable price were a big hit. She touched the common man’s lives with affordable and clean drinking water, decent vegetable prices and vegetable shops.  She even took up the power supply issues and asked people to be patient, and patient they were. This itself shows the kind of support and backing she managed to garner, even before the campaigning season started.

As against providing free televisions, Jayalalitha choose to support the women and help them become self-employed. In a tug of war between TVs and sewing machines, the latter is most likely to take the cake. And with her subsidised medicine scheme, she hit the nail on the head.

Her political diplomacy in terms of anti-Hindi and anti-Brahmin stand, her support towards the farmers and fishermen in the state and her education policy have all made the most popular choice. With Jayalalitha making her Prime Ministerial ambitions known, you never know what sort of powers she’ll end up bagging!

Kolkata: TMC is leading in 34 seats, while Congress in 4 seats, and BJP in 3 seats.
