Hyderabad: A controversy hits Telangana hours after K Chandrasekhar Rao was sworn in as chief minister as the cabinet has three members of his family and no women.
Rao on Monday sworn in along with 11 ministers amidst unending excitement and huge fanfare. However, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who is touted to head Andhra Pradesh, stayed away.
The new Telangana cabinet consists of Rao’s son KT Rama Rao, his nephew T Harish Rao, four Reddy’s, three other backward class members, a Dalit and a Muslim. Rao is facing nepotism charges over the inclusion of his son and nephew. It is seen as a skewed social representation in the new cabinet.
However, Rao Jr, who is popularly called KTR, said “Don’t judge us too early. The full-fledged strength (of the cabinet) is 18. An expansion will take place and all issues will be addressed.”
He informed that Chandrababu Naidu had been invited to attend the swearing in ceremony, but failed to show up. The chief minister’s nephew too will hold a Cabinet rank. The lone Muslim in the ministry, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, and the Dalit face, T Rajaiah are likely to be made deputy chief ministers.Â
