Water cannons greet BJP women protestors

Date:

Lucknow: Is UP heading for Presidential rule? After severe criticism from UN Secretary-Genaral, Ban Ki-moon, BJP women wing took on Akhilesh Yadav government for its lawlessness, which saw the gang rape and brutal murder of the two cousins who were found hanging from a tree in the most ignoble state due to the criminal negligence of the UP police.

BJP workers on Monday “gheraoed” the CM’s office. The police resorted to firing water cannons on the demonstrators, who had gathered in their hundreds in front of Akhilesh Yadav’s office.

BJP is demanding that FIRs should be lodged against officers right from IG to outpost in-charge in connection with Badaun gang-rape and murder case. It is also demanding a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the victims’ family.

Last week, two teenage girls, cousins and aged 14 and 15 years, were allegedly gang-raped and murdered with their bodies found hanging from a tree in Katra village of the district.

Meanwhile, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has said BJP-led NDA government will set up special centres for rape victims in every district of the country to provide medical as well as legal help to them.

“A one-stop centre will be made for them which will not only counsel the victims but will also provide legal help in case anyone needs. A special helpline will also be started to tackle the cases related to crime against women and children,” she said.
