Admission blues at DU

Date:

New Delhi: Online forms have not reduced the crowd at Delhi University campus, which sold at least 50,000 application forms on the first day. A majority of them came from outside the state, mostly from Bihar and UP.

Many of the applicants are not satisfied with the guidance at the enquiry counters. They have to move from college to college for the forms. “Enquiry desk is not providing sufficient information to us. I moved from SRCC to St Stephens, but forms were not available there. Then I was asked to go to Daulat Ram College for the form,” said Kartik Gautam, an applicant.

A majority of applicants from Delhi-NCR region preferred to fill the form online. But they, too, faced technical snags with the university website. “I’m trying to fill the online form of Delhi University since morning, but I’m unable to access the university website,” said Arshita, another applicant.

Confusion prevailed as most of the applicants were unable to identify the subject marks they are to include to get the aggregate of four subjects. “I don’t know whether we should include the marks of the optional subjects to enter the best aggregate percentage of class 12,” another applicant said.

We get mixed guidance from the university officials. “Some officials say we can include the optional subjects whereas some disagree, adding to our confusion,” said another helpless applicant.

Total dissatisfaction with the 4-year under-graduate program propelled by Delhi University is discernible in the voice of every student News Mobile spoke to, which could be summed in the words of a first-year student Yashdeep: “To make the under-graduate program for four years, the university has added subjects of no use: it’s simply the wastage of our time and money”.
