New Delhi: After witnessing the sensitive situation in Iraq. Jane Pearce, the Country Director of the UN World Food Programme, exclaimed that, an estimate amount of 2-million people are displaced in Iraq since 2005.
The UN World Food Programme provides a food basket to all the registered families. The registered families are estimated to have 4-5 members in them. 62 kg of food is provided in basket to the families by the Programme which consists of wheat, rice, pasta, boga, lentos, Kant food, salt and sugar. The food provided, is enough for the family of five for a month.
According to Jane Pearce’s figures, 500,000 people are displaced from Mosul—Northern region of Iraq and from the southern region (Erbil) nearly 400,000 people are homeless. Earlier it was estimated that one-million people will be displaced from their places. But 900,000 people are already homeless in the present riots.
During 2005-06 riots also, an estimate of one-million people were displaced which makes the total of around two-million people displaced in Iraq and count is still on.
