Comfortable stay in Delhi University

Date:

New Delhi: Aspirants from all over India come to Delhi University for their higher education. For many students, an independent life begins from the time of graduation, but away from parents the young aspirants always have financial limitations. Apart from accommodation, food and college fees, there are many expenses that a student has to meet. So we bring you tips on how to spend little but yet live comfortably, whilst also enjoying your young-adulthood.

Accommodation

Students do not need a big 3 BHK, but can easily survive in a medium size room with some basic amenities. A room, in a peaceful locality but close to college, will save time and money. In Delhi, Paying Guest (PG) accommodations as well as independent rooms are available.

PG accommodation comprises individual as well as shared ones. In South Delhi, close to South Campus, a PG accommodation is available for Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, which will include the room rent, electricity charges, furniture and two meals. The prices vary from place to place, depending on the facilities provided.

For a single room without furniture, without food and electricity bills to be paid, it will cost around Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000, with or without A/C and furniture. Such rooms are easily available near North Campus and South Campus.

For students of North Campus, Kamala Nagar, GBT Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, CR Park, Shashtri Nagar and Lakshmi Nagar would be ideal. For South campus, Satya Nikaten, Green Park, Malviya Nagar would be comfortable.

Food

McDonalds, KFC, and Pizza are yummy but expensive. Hiring a cook jointly could be economical, if you have the numbers.

For maggi, it’s Tom Uncle’s Maggi Point which is famous. This is in North campus near Ramjas College. St.Stephen’s CholeChawal or Ramjas’ PavBhaji or Hindu’s CholeBhature are equally popular.

Go to Hansraj for Milshakes and spend some free time at Delhi School of Economics (D-School) for South Indian dish. Try the Bantewallah outside Hindu College and Bhelpuri waala outside D-School. There are a lot of food joints available in and around Delhi University with the economy prices.

Shopping

The student life is all about buying new clothes and staying trendy.  The most popular garment markets are in Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and New Friends Colony. For North campus students,  Kamlanagar market is close by.
